These apps are designed to comply with prison regulations which allow family and friends to send messages, pictures video calls, eCards and money to their prison trust account. In addition to these messaging apps, there are numerous federal inmate applications that provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
The JPay app, for example allows family and friends to easily send money into the trust account of an inmate, as well as images, emails as well as eCards, video grams and more. They can also create personalized postcards that include personal photos. It is a safer, more secure alternative to postal mail.
Another popular texting app for inmates is GettingOut which provides "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved family members.
